The Church of Yrisas

Excerpted from On the Nature of God’s Creation, by Welrik Tarmalen, Scholar of Balashad

Of the many gods worshipped by the people of Ereksby, Yrisas is perhaps the most intriguing. This is not due to God Himself, who is similar in many ways to Esteva of the Kronites, but due to the nature of His church. The Church of Yrisas was founded by Verennia Esteren, herself a worshipper of Esteva prior to the founding of Yrisas' church, in the year 64. The Esteren family was more than simply wealthy, owning lands from Pora to Balashad and wielding more influence in the court of Kreone than any member of the royal family. Yet, despite the family's wealth and power, Verennia herself was not an extraordinary woman. Frail and sickly, she led a quiet, unassuming life until her thirty-fifth year. It was then that He spoke to her through an unknown emmissary. She was granted confidence and charisma the likes of which would not be seen until Gorat Himself took the throne of Terne.
