Excerpted from On the Nature of God’s Creation, by Welrik Tarmalen, Scholar of Balashad

What is Ereksby? Beyond the writings of the Book of Ages, that it is the kingdom of Yrisas in which His children might toil and celebrate their Lord, it is something far more complex and fascinating.

The name Ereksby means “Of Erek,” in this case, referring to the father of the gods who was overthrown by his children at the beginning of time. His body was cast from the heavens and became the world on which we now dwell. The mother of the gods, Keressen, remained in the heavens. Out of grief over the betrayal and death of her lover, she changed herself into the unfeeling, unmoving halls of Xarakan, where reside the gods.

As we have come to know, understand, and chart our world, we have learned a great many things about it. Ereksby is divided into four continents: Marzeph to the northeast, Magnicolis to the southwest, Faranin to the southeast and Keranan to the northwest. Between them all lay the island of Baracol and its chains. To the west is found the island of Ordetha, or The Last Outpost, as it is often dubbed, for beyond it stretches the Endless Ocean.

Ereksby is a flat expanse orbited by the sun (once believed to be the all-seeing eye of Yrisas, but now known to be the shining halls of Xarakan itself) and two moons, Reseas and Iseas, the tombs of the two youngest gods, slain by their father, Erek. To the north, south and east of the four continents stand the Towers of the Night -- a wall of mountains as black as the evening sky and taller than even the mightiest bird could possibly reach. Sailors who have travelled this far and managed to return say it is so cold it will freeze your eyes, so all you can do is look upon the peaks. To the west lies the Endless Ocean. No man has sailed beyond its horizon and returned, for if you were to travel to its end, a drop-off into the Kingdom of Nezzelock would await you.
